Leah at One

Leah had her one-year wellness check-up last week with our family doctor, and the appointment was fabulous. She measured 30 inches long, which is the same length Ruth was at her one-year check-up, this put her in the 87th percentile for length, with her weight just under 20 pounds putting her in the 26th percentile (this has increased a bit - yah!). Her head is also right on track, measuring 69th percentile for size. All around Leah looked healthy and well, she was super brave at her doctor appointment and although she didn't like laying down on the table/bed and her polio vaccine, she was content otherwise. We chose to delay Leah's MMR vaccine, but otherwise she is up to date on her vaccines. Our doctor commented on what a different demeanor Leah has than Ruthie (yes - we couldn't agree more!). She instructed us to begin weaning Leah off bottles and start giving her different cups and types of milks to see what she likes. We can continue presenting her with a variety of foods (excepts nuts), consider turning her car seat forward and keep reading to her and providing her with safe opportunities to grow and learn. We love our family doctor, and it's been fun connecting with her on child #2! Leah will have her next appointment at 15 months. :)

Here are a few tidbits about everything Leah is up to these days...
  • Leah loves the cat, the sandbox, her sister, water play, little vehicles or things with wheels, play phones and little stuffed animals.
  • She loves to walk around the house (she is completely walking now).
  • Her words are Mama, Dada, Sissy and Kitty (Sissy and Kitty are a bit slurred with a lisp), and we're working with her to say ball and doggie.
  • Leah refuses to eat baby food, wants only finger foods that she can feed herself. Her favorites include olives, potatoes and fruits.
  • Leah still sucks her thumb, but mostly just at naptime and bedtime to self-soothe. She loves her lovies (she does not discriminate, anything with a satin edge will do) and won't suck her thumb without them.
  • Leah loves clothes and washcloths, she loves toting around a wet washcloth (strange?), and she just loves taking clothes out of the drawers or a laundry basket one at a time.
  • She continues to take two naps, though it seems to be slowly switching over to one a day...
  • Leah is a happy kid, we are so thrilled to see her growing up!
