Adopting at Kitty

For months (possibly years) Ruth has requested a kitty cat, we have delayed as long as possible. On Ruthie's fourth birthday we took the plunge into pet ownership, adopting a one-year old cat from the local Humane Society. Our time at the Humane Society was informative and fun, we visited with dozens of cats before selecting our cat. The staff was helpful and excited for Ruth to be getting such a sweet birthday present. Although, Mark might be just as happy as Ruthie about getting a cat, on the car ride home he said it feels like a present for him. We hope to have this cat for the duration of the girl's childhoods.

The cat we've adopted is a sweet tabby cat that was transferred from a Spokane shelter. This cat is extremely social and loves to be petted, she meows a lot and loves to cuddle and sit next to us, she follows us around and is overly excited to see what's behind each door she comes upon. So far she's broken only one thing and peed on one of Ruthie's paintings (we think she's doing great so far). This is definitely the perfect cat for our home. We are anxious to get "Violet" acclimated to our house quickly, but know it will take time and patience. We feel like a more complete family, two kids and a cat! Lots of work, but it feels right. We hope Ruthie remembers this birthday forever.
